A Million Bricks
Set on a green space next to a motorway you will find a wall with a million bricks and a million answered prayers. This project was part of a kickstarter campaign by UK Christian prayer networks.
‘The Wall’ is set inside a garden. The garden is filled with fruit trees, plants, flowers, meadows and ponds. The garden transports the visitor into a world outside the motorway.
There are many different types of spaces in the garden; spaces for sitting, praying, quiet reflection, there’s also a space where visitors can sit and watch a digital screen where answered prayers are streamed live from the web.
There’s an amphitheater where group prayer or a church service may be held outdoors. There is also an enclosed ‘hidden’ garden filled with flowers- the perfect place for prayer and reflection. Also in the garden is a large pond where it is possible to use a boat to see parts of the wall not accessible by land.
The high level brick walkway is wheelchair accessible with swirled ramps leading up to and down from the high level part of the wall. There are several routes up to the brick level, these ramps up will journey through the trees and natural wonders of the garden.
The wall passes over water in some spaces and will have answered prayer engraved stepping stones which will allow visitors to get close to some etched bricks. However, not all etched bricks with answered prayers will be easily reached or read, some will be underwater or some will be so high that binoculars are needed. Some people may choose to go the extra mile to see these prayers in its physical state, some visitors will just have to trust that these answered prayers are there or will have to read about them digitally online.
During the construction period, a new volunteer each day is chosen to help lay the engraved bricks. These members of the pubic will then be able to say they helped build the structure.
The wall structure is made of brick which will sit on concrete columns. The bricks will have the answered prayers etched onto them. Concrete and brick are robust materials that will stand the test of time.
