Kew Gardens Seed Shop

Next Project

A competition entry to design a temporary structure under a tree(treehouse) for Kew Gardens which incorporates the institutions research into the natural world.

A seed shop was proposed which sells seeds to grow fruit and vegetables that are not available in the shops. There are thousands of natural fruit and veg species we can grow but only a small number are sold in the supermarkets for commercial reasons, a varied diet and varied crops are promoted with this proposal.

Edible and scented plants are grown in the temporary structure gardens, while insects and birds live in the walls. Tree based incense such as frankincense are burned in the treehouse with the scents released through specialist chimneys.

A rich variety of tree based materials are used to construct the tree house including cork, rubber, banana thatching and many more.
